Contractor Resume Guide — Hourly, Project, and Consulting Roles

Contractor resumes should package each engagement as a case study: client problem, your role, and the result.

Frame contract work as projects: 'Engagement: Payment platform migration for a fintech client — delivered on time, cut processing errors 40%.'

Show short-term impact: contractors are hired to move fast. 'Delivered a usable MVP in 8 weeks, enabling a demo to investors.'

Demonstrate flexibility: 'Adopted client's stack and processes in week one, shipping the first feature within 10 days.'

Quantify rates and value: if appropriate, mention typical engagement size or daily rate range.

Show repeat business: '6 of 10 engagements came from referrals or repeat clients — a signal of trust.'

List your niche and stack clearly — clients hire for specific expertise.

A 'Selected Engagements' section is more effective than a chronological job list for contractors.
