Resume Header Examples — Name, Contact Info That Gets Read
The header is the most important real estate on your resume. It must be clean, complete, and ATS-parsable.
The standard header includes: your full name (large font, 16-20pt), city and state, phone number, professional email, LinkedIn URL, and optionally a personal website or portfolio.
Professional email rule: Use a variation of your name. 'firstname.lastname@gmail.com' works. Avoid unprofessional addresses like 'partyanimal99@gmail.com'.
LinkedIn: Use a custom URL (linkedin.com/in/yourname). Recruiters click this link more often when it's clean and professional.
Do NOT put your header in the document header/footer section of Word. Many ATS systems skip headers and footers when parsing. Put it at the top of the body instead.
Include your target title under your name if you're pivoting or if recruiters search by title. Example: 'Jane Doe — Senior Product Manager'.
Skip irrelevant details: Date of birth, marital status, photo, and full home address are unnecessary in most countries and can invite bias.
Example header: 'John Smith | Austin, TX | 512-555-0143 | john.smith@gmail.com | linkedin.com/in/johnsmith | johnsmith.dev'
