Resume Skills Section — Examples and How to Rank Skills

The skills section is one of the first places ATS systems and recruiters look. It should be scannable, categorized, and tailored to each job.

List 10-20 relevant skills, grouped by category: Technical Skills, Tools & Platforms, Soft Skills, Languages. This makes it easy to scan.

Technical skills example: Python, SQL, React, Node.js, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, REST APIs, Git.

Tools & Platforms example: Jira, Confluence, Figma, Tableau, Power BI, Salesforce, HubSpot, Google Analytics.

Soft skills example: Leadership, Stakeholder Management, Cross-functional Collaboration, Communication, Problem-solving.

Match the job description: Reorder your skills so the most important skills from the JD appear first. If the JD emphasizes Python, list Python first.

Don't rate skills with progress bars or stars — ATS can't read them and they look unprofessional. Just list them.

Back up skills in your experience section. Listing 'Machine Learning' in skills is weak unless your bullets show real ML work.
